At Great Lakes Custom Meats and More, we’re proud to be a locally owned family meat market serving the community we call home. We believe in providing high-quality meats, friendly service, and a shopping experience that feels personal. From hand-cut steaks and fresh ground beef to homemade jerky, snack sticks, and specialty products, we take pride in offering products we would proudly serve to our own families. Our customers are more than just customers to us — they’re neighbors, friends, and part of the community that continues to support local businesses. We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve Livingston County and the surrounding areas with quality meats, honest service, and small-town values.

Our Story

Our story begins with a lifelong passion for quality meat and hard work in the industry. For over 40 years, our family has been involved in the meat business on the industrial side, learning every detail of how quality products are made, handled, and delivered. Our dad started his early 20s working in a small local grocery store before moving into industrial meat packing equipment sales where he helped setup industrial plants all over the world, building decades of experience and expertise. Through all those years, he always carried a dream of one day owning his own local meat market.

That same dedication even led him to design one of the leading meat slicers used in industrial meat packing plants today, a reflection of his deep understanding of the trade and commitment to doing things the right way. When he’s not working with meat, you’ll find him doing woodworking—much of which can be seen throughout our store, adding a personal touch to the space.

Today, that dream has become a family effort. His children and grandchildren and Brother have all been part of the business, working events and helping serve the community. As three generations of Brighton graduates, we’re proud to carry on a tradition rooted in family, hard work, and local pride. Great Lakes Custom Meats and More was built not just as a business, but as a place where experience, family, and community all come together.

Giving back to our community is something Gary and Lindsey take great pride in. Great Lakes Custom Meats was one of the early processors to partner with Sportsmen Against Hunger when they began their mission of turning donated deer into nutritious venison for local food banks.

Through the generosity of hunters and years of processing donated deer, we’re proud to have helped provide more than 120,000 meals to families in need — and we look forward to continuing that mission for years to come.

Giving Back Beyond the Store

Community involvement goes beyond Great Lakes, too. Lindsey also volunteers with Livingston County DART, helping support local first responders during emergencies, fires, trainings, and other incidents by providing canteen and rehabilitation support.
