Why is everything in our store Vacuum Sealed?
One thing that sets us apart is that we vacuum seal almost everything in our store instead of leaving it sitting open in a meat counter.
Vacuum sealing helps lock in freshness, flavor, and color while protecting the meat from air exposure that can dry it out and shorten shelf life. It also helps prevent freezer burn, keeps your meat cleaner and safer during storage, and makes it easier for customers to stock up without worrying about quality going downhill after a day or two.
We believe when you spend your hard-earned money on quality meat, it should stay as fresh as possible from our cooler to your table.

Bird Houses and Bird Feeders
One thing people may not know about Great Lakes Custom Meats is that my dad Gary is always building something. Along with his years in the meat industry and designing industrial slicers used around the world, he also loves woodworking and creating things by hand. These homemade bird houses and bird feeders are all handcrafted by him right here for the store. Each one has its own personality and character, making them true one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find anywhere else. From funny woodland creatures to rustic northern-style designs, they’ve become one of the most talked about things when people walk through the door. If you stop in, make sure you take a look at them hanging throughout the store — they’re all handmade with a lot of time and creativity
Handmade Knives
Another hidden gem inside Great Lakes Custom Meats is my dad Gary’s handmade knife collection. Over the years, he has handcrafted more than 100 custom knives that are displayed in the store. Each knife is completely unique, made with incredible attention to detail using a variety of exotic woods, antlers, bone, and natural materials that give every piece its own character. Some have a rustic northern woods feel, while others are more polished collector-style pieces. What makes them even more special is knowing they were all handmade right here by the owner himself. Between the bird houses, feeders, cutting boards, and knives, there’s a lot more family craftsmanship and history inside our store than most people would ever expect walking through the front door.
